Following discussions with Bramhope Residents, Liberal Democrat Cllr Greg Mulholland has taken up calls for the main junction at The Cross in Bramhope village to be made safer. The junction, outside the Fox & Hounds, has been the scene of a number of serious accidents and it is time to act now says Greg Mulholland.
Visibility is very poor and there is a problem with cars failing to drive appropriately because of this, a problem which is made worse by people using Moor Road and Old Lane as short cuts. The area is busy with shops and the pub, particularly on dark winter afternoons, and there is the danger of accidents involving pedestrians as well as cars.
Various ideas have been suggested but so far there are no firm plans in place to address the problem so Cllr Mulholland has written to highways asking them to come up with firm proposals to tackle this once and for all.
Says Cllr Mulholland "Bramhope has a beautiful village centre but too many drivers are failing to take account of the need for caution here. We need a solution which will make this junction safer for pedestrians and motorists alike" and he adds, "Let's not wait until there is another serious accident before this problem is properly addressed."
