WHAT A RESULT! LOCAL ELECTION PUTS LIB DEMS IN POLE POSITION TO WIN THE GENERAL ELECTION

June 17, 2004 12:00 AM

The wonderful local election results are a springboard for the General Election campaign with the Lib Dems leading the race to be your next MP here in Leeds North West.

Local Lib Dems won all 3 seats from the Conservatives in Otley & Yeadon in the north of the constituency and all 3 seats from Labour in Hyde Park & Woodhouse in the south, so the Lib Dems are winning all over Leeds North West. Overall the Liberal Democrats won 9 out of 12 councillors in the 4 wards that make up most of Leeds NW, leaving the other parties trailing and overall there are no less than 18 Lib Dem Leeds City Councillors who represent part of Leeds North West!

Greg Mulholland, Parliamentary Spokesperson for Leeds North West Liberal Democrats commented, "This year's result shows clearly that the Liberal Democrats can win in Leeds North West at the next general election".

Greg adds "The Conservatives had a disastrous night losing all 3 seats in Otley and Yeadon and they are no longer in the race in Leeds North West. The Liberal Democrats have shown that we are the real challengers to Labour here."

Greg Mulholland lives in the constituency, is a well known local campaigner and is working hard with the other 17 city councillors who represent the area: "We are delighted to have so many Councillors. Imagine how much more we could get done if we also had a Lib Dem MP."
