Greg Mulholland, MP for Leeds North West, has responded to the news today that the police have launched an investigation into the use of British airports by the CIA for the purposes of 'extraordinary rendition'. The news comes after Greg joined an All-Party Parliamentary Group established to look into the claims that detainees suspected of terrorism are being passed to countries where they may be tortured.
Commenting on today's news, Greg said:
"This is a most welcome development and underlines the independence of the investigating authorities in the United Kingdom. If the law is being breached and there is evidence to establish this, prosecution should follow. If any use of British airfields is in breach of our obligations, there would not only be legal consequences but serious political ones as well."
