Greg Mulholland, MP for Leeds North West and Junior International Development Spokesman for the Liberal Democrats, today warmly received a Trade Justice lobby to Westminster. Greg met with constituents during the mass lobby of Parliament organised by CAFOD and MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY supporters. Constituents congregated in the Great Hall in the Palace of Westminster to lobby MP's and the Government as part of the campaign.
As a past volunteer for CAFOD, Greg attended the mass lobby of Parliament in 2002 campaigning for FairTrade and other development priorities, before he was elected as a Member of Parliament. Commenting, Greg said:
"Having campaigned and fought for FairTrade and other development priorities for many years, it's an enormous pleasure to be able to meet so many of my constituents who share these concerns.
"Although effective aid programmes and debt relief help to make poverty history, they can create dependency too.
"Fair trade rules which open markets but protect less developed countries from exploitation will provide the strong foundation needed for sustainable economic development."
