LOCAL SHOPS NOT JET SET TOMATOES: MULHOLLAND

October 27, 2005 12:00 AM

Commenting on Prince Charles's comments on climate change, Leeds MP Greg Mulholland, said;

"Prince Charles was absolutely right to say climate change is the biggest issue we all face. I hope his comments will act as a spur both to the Government to up its game, and to the media to start putting politicians on the spot rather than treating climate change as an abstract story.

"Here in Leeds we have excellent local butchers and shops selling goods from all over Yorkshire. People have an excellent quality and variety on their doorsteps without the need for food to be jetted in from the other side of the globe, unnecessarily polluting the environment in the process.

"The Liberal Democrats have recognised the enormous challenge which climate change presents, which is why we have put forward the cross party consensus on climate change. The Conservatives have agreed to respond positively to our initiative, when will Labour do the same?"

    If you are a resident of the Leeds North West constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

    If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
