Greg Mulholland, MP for Leeds North West, has today tabled urgent parliamentary questions to the Secretary of State for Education, Ruth Kelly MP, urging her to reconsider her decision not to award government funding to Prince Henry's Grammar School, Otley. It was announced last week that the school will not receive a grant from the government to carry out urgent building repairs.
Commenting Greg Mulholland said;
"As one of the best performing educational institutions in Leeds, it's truly bizarre that the government have not given it their full backing.
"This is a government that is ignoring the very basic and urgent needs of successful schools and pupils and parents alike feel let down, frustrated and angry.
"I hope the Ruth Kelly will respond to my urgent call to reconsider her decision and secure the long term future of Prince Henry's."
"One thing I will be looking into is why Prince Henry's has not qualified for the governments "Building schools for the future" initiative and I'll continue to challenge the government in Parliament over this issue."
