Greg Mulholland, MP for Leeds North West has expressed his outrage over the government's refusal to provide funding to Prince Henry's Language School in Otley.
The news comes after the school put in a £6 million bid to improve buildings on the school site. The application was submitted as a result of a recent OFSTED report, which deemed the overall effectiveness of the school to be excellent; however the unsatisfactory accommodation has lead to various negative impacts amongst the school's staff and pupils.
Commenting on these latest developments, Greg said:
"This decision is quite frankly a disgrace. Every aspect of the OFSTED inspection was impressive, apart from the obvious need for financial investment to improve the quality of various buildings within the school's complex."
The Liberal Democrat MP added;
"Prince Henry's was ignored by Labour when they were in control of Leeds City Council, to the point where it was literally falling down. This disappointing decision illustrates this government's inability to react or even acknowledge OFSTED recommendations. However this is not the end of this matter, the School is widely regarded as one of the best performing educational institutions in the city of Leeds, I shall be doing my up most to ensure Prince Henry's receives the financial investment it desperately needs."
Greg is to meet the acting Headmaster of Prince Henry's John Dean, to discuss a way forward on this issue.
