MULHOLLAND URGES CONSTITUENTS TO 'MAKE EVERY CUP OF COFFEE COUNT' FOR PEOPLE LIVING WITH CANCER

September 30, 2005 12:00 AM

"Make a coffee, change a life", says local MP Greg Mulholland, who is encouraging people in Leeds North West to join Macmillan Cancer Relief's World's Biggest Coffee Morning on Friday 30 September to raise money to help people living with cancer.

There are currently over one million people in the UK who have had a diagnosis of cancer. As a result of this, Macmillan's nurses, doctors, information and support staff are needed now more than ever.

Last year, the World's Biggest Coffee Morning, now in its 15th year, raised over £5.3 million in a single morning. All over the UK people held coffee mornings in their homes, at work and at school and this year the charity is hoping that even more people will join in. Being part of the World's Biggest Coffee Morning can be as simple as putting the kettle on and asking friends, family or colleagues to have a coffee and make a donation for each cup they drink. Macmillan provides everything you need, from invitations to a collection box.

Commenting, Greg said:

"More than one in three people in Leeds North West will be diagnosed with cancer at some time in their life. All of us know someone who has been affected by cancer and many of us have experienced the fantastic care and support Macmillan offers to people with cancer."

"Whatever you're up to on 30 September, make sure you're part of the World's Biggest Coffee Morning - it's such a simple way to help raise money for Macmillan."

"I shall be attending a World's Biggest Coffee Morning myself and I hope as many people as possible in Leeds North West will also join in."

To register to host your own coffee morning or to find out more please call the Macmillan Hotline on 0845 602 1246 or visit the website at: www.macmillan.org.uk/coffee
