Greg Mulholland, MP for Leeds North West, has today written a letter to Leeds City Council to express his concern at the decision to relocate the Otley Chevin warden to Red Hall. Greg aims to draw the Council's attention to the way in which the area has been historically under-utilised and deserves more support.
Greg has called upon Leeds City Council to properly co-ordinate and promote the activities at Chevin Forest Park and do more to maximise and co-ordinate the educational potential of the White House, an educational facility at the side of Otley Chevin.
Commenting, Greg said:
"Otley Chevin has been historically undervalued and under-utilised, which is dreadful considering that it's the jewel in the crown of the city's assets.
"The current management and promotion of the Chevin by Leeds City Council compared to the management of council owned country and forest parks in other areas of the country is sadly lacking.
"Instead of looking at ways of 'streamlining' warden services, the Council should now look at finally making the most of the Chevin and providing the appropriate resources."
"At a time when there has been a lot of talk and concern regarding the activities of inner-city youths, Otley Chevin could be used as a great place for young people amongst others to spend their time."
