Greg Mulholland, Member of Parliament for Leeds North West, has today responded to the news that Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust has been awarded a zero star rating. This development follows proposals of job cuts and service withdrawal at the Trust.
The ratings, published today (27 July) by independent watchdog the Healthcare Commission, have seen the Trust fall from a one star rating last year. The Healthcare Commission star ratings cover a number of performance areas including inpatient and outpatient waiting times, time spent in A&E, financial management, hospital cleanliness and the number of cancelled operations.
The Trust underachieved on the number of people waiting more than two weeks to be seen following an urgent cancer referral.
It significantly underachieved on:
• Nine month waiting times for elective inpatient and day case surgery
• The percentage of people spending more than four hours in A&E
Commenting on Leeds Hospital Trust receiving a rating of zero stars, Greg said:
"It's deeply concerning that a number of crucial services areas have significantly under achieved despite some encouraging improvements in others.
"While more people are being seen in A & E sooner that in previous years improvements aren't being made fast enough.
"The Trust and the government need to re-double their efforts to ensure the people of Leeds have the world class health service they deserve and the consultants and staff have the resources and support needed to do that job.
"I have today contacted both the Minister and the Trust to ensure these changes are put in place with immediate effect."
