Commenting on the CSA's Annual Report and Accounts 2004-05, published this week, Work and Pensions Committee Member, Greg Mulholland MP, said:
"Things have gone from bad to worse at the CSA. The backlog of cases has actually grown over the year, just 66% of fathers are complying with their maintenance assessments which is well below the CSA's own target of 78%, and accuracy rates have plummeted so that 1 in 4 decisions are wrong.
"What's more they have cut back the number of staff by 5% despite being told by the Work and Pensions Select Committee that cutting the work force would be a massive breach of trust.
"Ministers have failed miserably to get a grip on the problems at the CSA and now they appear to have closed their minds to radical and urgent action.
"It is time they scrapped the CSA and simplified the system for collecting payments so people in Leeds North West and around the country know where they stand."
