Following the intervention of His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales, it has emerged that the Leeds man facing execution in Pakistan, Mirza Tahir Hussain, has been granted a temporary stay of execution until December 31st.
Commenting, Mirza Tahir's family MP, Greg Mulholland, said:
"The personal involvement of His Royal Highness in this case was extremely welcome and there was a real feeling that this could be the factor which would tip the balance in securing Mirza Tahir a permanent pardon from execution. "So, while it is of course a relief that Mirza Tahir will not be executed on November 1st, it is extremely disappointing that the Pakistani Authorities have yet again chosen merely to delay Mirza Tahir's execution in the hope that people will lose interest and forget about his plight.
"Mirza Tahir is trapped in a cycle of new execution dates and temporary reprieves which is nothing short of mental torture for him and his family. "It is time that President Musharraf used the powers available to him and freed this man, allowing him to come back to Leeds where he belongs."
