Greg Mulholland, MP for Leeds North West, has shown his support for the Summer Reading Challenge programme, aimed at inspiring children to read more, by donating books to two local libraries.
The Summer Reading Challenge is a national campaign which has been organised by the Reading Agency a charity working to inspire and support libraries in creating the best possible access to reading for everyone.
Greg visited both the Headingley and Otley libraries last month to hand over the books, and to encourage local children to get involved with the scheme.
Commenting Greg said:
"It is vitally important to get children into the reading habit early, but to do this we need to present reading in a fun and entertaining way, this is what the summer reading challenge achieves.
The range and quality of children's books is better than ever and we need to make the most of this by encouraging more children to start reading.
I think that it will be a great success and will persuade many children to use their libraries and read more"
