Commenting on plans to introduce a joint application system for university places and loans and grants, Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Schools, Leeds MP Greg Mulholland said:
"Reducing bureaucracy and making services more user-friendly is always a good thing.
However I'm not convinced it's the paperwork that really worries students and their families as much as the thousands of pounds of debt graduates have to shoulder.
The Government must get it priorities right; the key issue to be addressed is not paperwork but spiralling student debt, debt about to be made even worse with the introduction of huge university top-up fees."
