Speaking in Parliament today, MP for Leeds North West Greg Mulholland, along with fellow Leeds MP Paul Truswell, called action to address the funding gap which currently exists between London and other urban areas in the rest of the country, particularly growing northern cities like Leeds.
Commenting Greg said:
"Leeds is a thriving, developing city but is being held back by one fundamental factor; a lack of investment in transport infrastructure and development.
What is urgently needed is investment into transport into areas such as Leeds similar to that which has so widely improved transport in London. Leeds has enjoyed remarkable economic success but it is being badly held back by an under-funded transport system.
We must also move decision-making on local transport issues to local people, not remotely in Whitehall. We already have excellent organisations like Metro in place to make the kind long-time sustainable funding decisions Leeds desperately needs so it can continue to flourish as a booming and vibrant city; it makes no sense not to use them.
