Following Transport Secretary Alistair Darling's visit today to the Bradford-Leeds commuter route launching the one mile of car-sharing lane Greg Mulholland, Liberal Democrat MP for Leeds North West commented:
"It is laughable that the Secretary of State for Transport has come all the way to the region to launch a one mile long car-sharing lane.
"More investment should be put into public transport not short-term measures tinkering with stretches of busy motorway. This really sums up the Government's approach to public transport which has been categorised by timidity and failure."
"I am surprised that Alistair Darling feels like showing his face in Leeds. He will always be remembered by the people of Leeds as the man who denied them the 21st century Supertram system.
"I suggest before Alistair Darling bothers visiting Leeds again he waits till he has some concrete public transport solutions to tackle the city's ever increasing congestion problems".
