Greg Mulholland MP for Leeds North West today met with Leeds students in Westminster concerned about the possible lifting of the cap on tuition fees. The students were part of a nation campaign by the National Union of Students who organised representatives from across the country to lobby their MPs in Parliament.
Commenting Leeds MP Greg Mulholland said:
"Ministers' complacency about the impact of tuition and top-up fees must be alarming for students, future students and their parents.
"The truth is that getting saddled with thousands of pounds worth of debt won't just discourage people from going to university but will change their choice of career, when they get married and when they can afford to buy a house. These are very serious issues and the idea that the Government is keen to lift the cap on fees without addressing them is extremely worrying.
"Deciding to study for a degree should be based on someone's academic ability, not his or her capacity to manage debt."
