CSA REFORMS HALF-BAKED AND LET DOWN LOCAL PEOPLE: MULHOLLAND

January 19, 2006 12:00 AM

Commenting on CSA reform proposal to hand over the collection of unpaid maintenance to private debt collecting firms, local MP and member of the Work and Pensions Select Committee, Greg Mulholland MP said:

"I've been inundated by concerned constituents who are continuing to be let down by this failing agency.

"Ministers have become fixated by enforcement measures so they can give the appearance of doing something.

"But this proposal ducks the fundamental reforms necessary - to get assessments done quickly and to collect maintenance efficiently.

"There is a risk that these 'bounty hunters' will simply go for the soft cases and if they are paid out of the money they are supposed to be collecting, this will be lost to the children it is meant for."

If you are a resident of the Leeds North West constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
