Greg Mulholland, MP for Leeds North West and Liberal Democrat Shadow Health Minister, has called for an urgent investigation following the discovery of apparently unclean ambulance equipment, indeed equipment with blood still present upon it, in a cupboard/storage space at the Leeds General Infirmary.
Mr Mulholland has written urgently to the Chief Executive of the Leeds Teaching Hospital's Trust, Ms Maggie Boyle, calling for an enquiry and for assurances that this will not be allowed to happen again.
Commenting Greg said:
"This is a shocking discovery, particularly in light of recent infection scares at the LGI.
"Such a clear failure to follow to required standards of hygiene is a very serious matter, and one with the potential to impact severely on the health of patients and on hospital and ambulance staff.
"We must have a full explanation of how this situation was allowed to arise, and cast-iron assurances that it will never be allowed to do so again."
