On the day marked by Amnesty International as Aung San Suu Kyi Day, Leeds MP Greg Mulholland has called upon the Government to do more to address the situation in Burma ahead of a debate on the subject in Parliament on Monday.
Today marks the end of the 12th year that Aung San Suu Kyi, the leader of the National League of Democracy in Burma, has been under house arrest.
Commenting Greg said:
"The events of recent weeks in Burma shocked the world.
"The Burmese Military's brutal crackdown on the peaceful pro-democracy demonstrations was brutal and horrific, and it remains unclear how many demonstrators died, and how many are still languishing in prison.
"Now, one month after the protests were ended through this brutality, it is vital that this issue is not allowed to drop from the top of the political agenda.
"Along with nations around the world, the British Government must do everything it can to support the Burmese people in their struggle against tyranny and oppression."
