Commenting on the news that the controversial fence at the Wharfemeadows park has been pulled down, Greg Mulholland said:
"Whilst I cannot condone people taking the law into their own hands, this demonstrates just how much anger has been generated in Otley over this issue.
"Trying to impose things in the face of overwhelming opposition is no way to do things and Leeds City Council have ridden roughshod over local people and their elected representatives. Otley people simply will not stand being treated in this way.
"What is now important is that Leeds City Council leaders finally listen to the views of Otley
Town Council, the town's City Councillors, the town's MP and the Wharfemeadows Action Group who have so ably led this fight on behalf of the people of Otley.
"No further work should take place until there has been a full enquiry into the way this whole fiasco has been handled by Leeds City Council. It is time for the people of Otley to be listened to because it is their park not the Council's and it is time Leeds City Council finally realised that."
