Greg Mulholland MP for Leeds North West today attended the Woodsley Road Multicultural Centre Moving On New Year Celebration. The event which is in its second year is designed to promote cohesion and understanding between the various communities living in Hyde Park and Burley area following the London Bombings.
The event was also the official welcoming home from the Hyde Park community of Mirza Tahir Hussain the Leeds man who was dramatically freed from death row in Pakistan last November. Amjad Hussain who had campaigned vigorously for the release of his brother delivered the keynote speech about the campaign to release Mirza Tahir.
Greg who has been nominated for a Channel 4 Political Award for his role in the campaign said "It was really nice to see Mirza and Amjad again, I am full of admiration for the way that Mirza has readjusted to life back in Leeds after all he has been through"
"I think the Moving On Celebration is a great local event and it was fantastic to see so many people here" "I think it is really important that we support events like this one that bring people together and promote understanding and tolerance."
