Greg Mulholland MP for Leeds North West today swapped the House of Commons for the classroom as he helped students at Holy Name Primary School understand how Parliament works. Greg explained to students what MP's do, and also gave a brief introduction into the workings of Westminster.
Pupils were then asked to take part in a Mini-Parliament with Greg acting as the Speaker. The class were split into two groups with a government side proposing the motion and the other group as the opposition. The class debated the issue of household waste with the government side winning the vote.
"It was very enjoyable to be able to talk to the children directly about exactly what Parliament does, and what MP's like me are here for ! I think it's vital that children learn about Parliament from a young age as the decisions we make will affect every aspect of their lives in the future. I think the pupils really enjoyed the debate and I believe we may have a few budding politicians in the class!"
