Following England's failure to qualify for the European Championships, Leeds MP Greg Mulholland has co-sponsored an Early Day Motion in the House of Commons this morning calling for competitive home internationals to be introduced for next summer to give fans something to look forward to, and a top-quality manager to be appointed to take control of the national side.
Commenting Greg said
"We should stage competitive home internationals for next summer to at least give fans of the home nations something to look forward to.
"These matches would provide an excellent competitive environment in which to build the national teams of the home nations, ahead of the World Cup in 2010."
"We also need a top quality manager to take control of the English national side. Whilst it would be nice to be able to have an Englishman, what matters is that we pick the right person to take English football back to being world beaters and to do that we must pick the best candidate."
