Commenting on today's events in Parliament following the refusal of the Speaker to allow a vote on the Liberal Democrat amendment calling for an in-out referendum on the EU, Leeds MP Greg Mulholland said:
"This generation have never been given the chance to vote on the UK's continuing membership of the EU, they have been denied that by successive Conservative and Labour Governments.
"Parliament had the chance to vote for a referendum on this but it was rejected by Labour and the Tories who are clearly afraid to have a real debate about Europe.
