Greg Mulholland MP for Leeds North West last night demanded that the Post Office listened to local residents at the public meeting he had organised about the proposed closure of Bramhope Post Office. Joining Greg at the meeting were over 70 Bramhope residents as well as Cllr Barry Anderson, Geoff Mills from Bramhope Parish Council and representatives from Royal Mail and Postwatch.
Greg said "I'm sure the representatives from the Post Office left knowing that the people of Bramhope are completely opposed to the closure of their Post Offices. It is completely ridiculous that a village the size of Bramhope is facing the threat of losing its post Office and it was great to here Bramhope's residents speak so passionately against the closure.
The Post Office closure plan indicates two Post Offices it considers as alternative branches, these two branches are Pool and Cookridge.
Greg continued "choosing Pool and Cookridge as the alternatives shows how little the Post Office knows about Bramhope. It will be easier for the majority of Bramhope residents to get to either Adel or Otley Post Offices but neither is at all suitable for most residents and it is likely that if Bramhope Post Office does close Adel and Otley would become intolerably busy. I therefore urge the Post Office re-consider their decision to close this vital local amenity."
