Local MP Greg Mulholland is demanding answers from Royal Mail as more evidence has emerged which suggests that the consultation process prior to the closure may have been little more than a public relations exercise.
Posters advertising the closure to Far Headingley Post Office contained the wrong address of an alternative branch for customers to go to in Meanwood. The Post Office Ltd produced posters contained the old address of the Meanwood branch which has recently moved
Greg said " The address for the Meanwood Post Office was stated as 593 Meanwood Road, an address that this Post Office stopped operating from on 24th June 2008, as they were moving to 12 Green Road.
This has raised serious concerns that these posters were printed before the new address was confirmed, which is also a number of weeks before the consultation period for Far Headingley Post Office ended.
Questions have already been asked about the consultation process after the Yorkshire Evening Post reported that only two Post Offices in West Yorkshire were to be saved - both in ministers constituencies. More and more people will be wondering whether the decision to close had been finalised long before local people got the chance to have their say."
