Greg Mulholland MP for Leeds North West will today judge the Champion Beer of Britain at the Great British Beer Festival at Earls Court today. Past winners of this award have included Caledonian Deuchars IPA and Timothy Taylor's, both of which are now widely available in pubs throughout the country.
Greg who is vice chair of the All Party Parliamentary Beer Group and also a member of CAMRA (The campaign for real ale) also opened the Great British Beer Festival. The festival is Britain's biggest beer festival and brings together a wide range of real ales, ciders, perries and international beers. There will be at least 450 beers available throughout the festival including golden ales, fruit beers, stouts, bitters and some international real lagers.
Greg who has a track record of fighting to protect local pubs said "I'm really honoured to open the festival and I can't wait to judge the competition. I'm sure there will be some excellent beers and it's going to be a privilege to taste some of the finest UK beers."
"I think the festival is a really good way of promoting small independent British brewers and local pubs. Many in the beer industry are facing difficult times at the moment with the local pub under increasing pressures, so I hope the festival will give many in the industry a much needed boost."
