MULHOLLAND COMMENDS WEST YORKSHIRE POLICE'S COMMITMENT TO FRONTLINE POLICING

August 21, 2008 11:00 AM

Local MP Greg Mulholland has congratulated West Yorkshire Police after it was revealed that their officers spend over 70% of their time on the front line, more than any other police force in the country.

The figures were revealed in answer to a Parliamentary Question to the Home Office by David Ruffley MP, and show that West Yorkshire Police have increased their time spent on the streets from 62.2% to 76% over the past 3 years.

Mulholland commented:

"Police officers should not be stuck behind a desk doing paperwork, they should be out actually tackling crime and providing a visible presence in the community.

"West Yorkshire Police should be highly commended for placing a commitment to frontline policing at the very heart of their approach.

"It can only be reassuring to local people, who want to feel safe on our streets and know that they can receive assistance quickly in times of need. I hope that it will continue long into the future."

If you are a resident of the Leeds North West constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
