Greg Mulholland MP for Leeds North West today wrote to the Government's Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Hazel Blears seeking assurances about the Leeds Girls High School site.
Many local residents have opposed the plans, which include a large amount of housing been built on the land.
Hazel Blears visited the school recently and met with local residents who are concerned about the plans for the site. Greg has written to the minister asking that she makes sure that the Government does not overturn the community's wishes by allowing the proposed development to take place.
Greg said "It's vital that a government inspector does not come along and make a decision that runs contrary to wishes of local residents. I hope that Hazel Blears, having spoken to local people will make sure that Government officials back local residents in this dispute."
Greg added "The plans are completely unacceptable and local residents are understandably angry that school has refused to listen to their views."
