Greg Mulholland, MP for Leeds North West, has expressed his delight that MP's expenses rules are to be changed - after an investigation into cabinet ministers Ed Balls MP and Yvette Cooper MP by the Parliamentary Standards Commissioner - which will mean that MPs who live together as couples will no longer being able to claim separate allowances for their second homes.
Mr Mulholland called for this measure in his submission to the Commissioner when this issue was debated in the House of Commons earlier in the year.
Commenting Greg said:
"I am glad that the Standards Commissioner is going to put an end to this absurd practice.
"When two MPs are living together it is ridiculous that they should be able to claim two sets of allowances for the same property.
"Hopefully this will now be a precursor to the issue of MPs allowances being looked at again across the board."
