Greg Mulholland MP welcomed constituents Rachel Coffey-Brittain and daughter Gaia to parliament yesterday to discuss support for children with diabetes.
Over 200 children and young people visited Parliament as part of a lobby to tackle the lack of support that children with diabetes receive in schools. There is an estimated 500,000 children living with diabetes globally and every year over 70,000 more develop this condition.
Greg was very pleased to have the chance to talk to Gaia (aged 9), to discuss her experiences of living with diabetes at school.
Commenting Greg said
"I was very pleased to meet with Gaia and listen to her experiences and the issues she faces with diabetes in school."
"Diabetes is a very serious condition that affects over 250 million people worldwide and if not managed effectively at a young age can lead to long term complications."
"It is vital to ensure that children with diabetes receive the support they need at school, so that they are able to fully participate in the school experience."
