Greg Mulholland MP for Leeds North West today raised concerns about the standard of care which one of his constituents received at the Eccleshill Independent Sector Treatment Centre in Bradford.
John Hubley, from West Park, Leeds, died during routine gall bladder surgery at the Centre. His death led the NHS National Patient Safety Agency to issue a Rapid Response Report to all UK surgical units warning that "surgery should not be commissioned or delivered in facilities which lack the systems and equipment to manage emergencies safely".
Greg said "This is a terrible case and a tragedy for the Hubley family and Mr Hubley's fiancée."
"Very serious questions have to be asked about what happened, about why and how a healthy man died after routine surgery."
"There are clearly concerns that procedures were not followed and questions arise as to whether this is medical negligence. The Hubley family have my full support and I will do all I can to assist them in this matter."
