The Queen's Speech saw the Government unveil plans to reform the licensing of lap dancing clubs Greg Mulholland MP for Leeds North West has welcomed this move. Since 2005 lap dancing clubs have been licensed in the same way as restaurants and cafes - requiring only a Premises Licence. This has led to the number of lap dancing clubs in the UK doubling since 2004 to over 300 clubs.
The Government plans to reform legislation so lap dancing clubs are licensed with a Sex Encounter Establishment. This will enable local authorities to apply greater controls and restrictions to lap dancing clubs, and will give local people a greater say in licensing processes.
Greg said "I'm glad the Government has finally introduced this legislation. Lap dancing clubs create problems for local residents and it was absurd that they only required a premises license. It is quite right that local residents will now have real powers to stop a lap dancing club opening in their community."
