TROOP WITHDRAWAL OVERDUE BUT WELCOME - MULHOLLAND

December 17, 2008 2:54 PM

Greg Mulholland, MP for Leeds North West, has welcomed the decision to withdraw British troops from Iraq by the end of July of next year. The decision was announced by Gordon Brown today when he confirmed that the mission in Iraq will end no later than the 31st May 2009.

Commenting Greg said:

"At last the Government has faced up to the total failure of the mission in Iraq and made the right decision in bringing our troops home.

"This has been long overdue and I hope this will be the last of the British involvement in this utterly disastrous and illegal operation.

"We never should have put our troops in danger just to suit US foreign policy. It is high time our troops came home.

"It is now essential that we look into the reasons and decisions to going to war and allow for a full public inquiry into how this was allowed to happen."

If you are a resident of the Leeds North West constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
