Today in Committee Greg Mulholland questioned representatives of the Pension Disability and Carers Service about levels of take up of Pension Credit.
Greg raised the fact that pensioner poverty had increased by 300,000 people over the last two years to 2.5 million people which was a real concern and asked if enough was being doing to encourage people to apply for
Pension Credit to deal with this.
He also pointed out the fact that the Government was still not hitting targets of either Pension Credit or the
Guarantee Credit and that more needed to be done to tackle this.
He also asked why call centres that are already in place to provide services are not being used to encourage people to apply for Pension Credit.
