NEW PRESIDENT MUST TURN CHANCE FOR REAL CHANGE INTO ACTION - MULHOLLAND

January 20, 2009 6:51 PM

On the day that new US President Barack Obama is sworn into office, Greg Mulholland MP has welcomed the election of former senator Obama, heralding it a great day for democracy and a chance for real change.

Mr Mulholland has called upon President Obama to turn his campaign promises into action - particularly in withdrawing troops from Iraq, closing the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, and tackling climate change.

Commenting Greg said:

"Today is a great day for democracy, the election of Barack Obama to the US Presidency is like a huge breath of fresh air that carries with it the possibility of real change.

"But President Obama must adhere the key aims that he made his priorities on the campaign trail, starting with withdrawing US troops from Iraq, closing Guantanamo Bay, and putting in place real measures to combat climate change.

"It is time for those promises to become reality."

If you are a resident of the Leeds North West constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
