Greg Mulholland MP is supporting the residents on Moorland Road in their efforts to reduce the speed limit from 60mph to 30mph.
Greg Mulholland MP for Leeds North West today demanded action over the Moorland Road speeding issue. He has written to the Leader of Leeds City Council Andrew Carter asking him to look into the matter.
Moorland Road is a residential street in Bramhope, which at present has a 60mph speed limit. A number of local residents have expressed their concerns over the speed limit and have asked for it to be reduced to 30mph. Greg has written to the Highways Department on a number of occasions but they have refused to reduce the speed limit.
Greg said "The speed limit on Moorland Road is obviously inappropriate, there is a genuine concern that someone is going to get seriously injured or killed on this stretch of road."
"Council officers have said that statistical evidence suggests that traffic does not often travel at over 30mph on the road so there is no need to change the limit. This is completely wrong, as the opportunity remains for drivers to drive too quickly quite legally. "
"I hope the Council officers who are refusing to lower the speed limit will look again at their decision and back local residents over this issue."
