Greg Mulholland MP, Member of Parliament for Leeds North West presented a Parliamentary motion to the Cove Fish and Chip Shop in Otley.
The motion tabled in Parliament by the Otley MP congratulates the fish and chip shop for its recent awards and efforts to be more environmentally friendly.
The Cove has recently become the first fish and chip shop in Yorkshire, and one of the first in the UK, to be granted 5 star status according to the industry standard, Seafish, rating system. It has also been won the coveted Seafish Award of Excellence for each of the past thirteen years.
The Cove has also been awarded a certificate of commendation by the Campaign for Rural England (CPRE). This was in recognition of the environmentally-conscious schemes that the chippie has introduced, such as introducing biodegradable packaging.
After presenting the motion to John Georgeallis owner of the Cove Greg Mulholland was full of praise for the chippie:
"The impressive array of awards that the Cove has collected is a glowing testament to the hard work that Mr Georgallis has put into building up a superb fish and chip shop."
"It is of utmost importance that we, as a society, begin to consider ways in which we can be more environmentally friendly. It is most heartening to see a local business start to take the initiative in this, and I am proud that his efforts have been recognised by the CPRE."
