Greg Mulholland MP has tabled a motion in the House of Commons commending best-selling author Sir Terry Pratchett for allowing cameras to film his ongoing battle with Alzheimer's disease, shown in a documentary on BBC2 last night ('Terry Pratchett: Living with Alzheimer's'), so that more people might understand this terrible condition.
Commenting Greg said:
"I met Terry recently and I was struck then by how he has steadfastly refused to allow Alzheimer's to get the better of him.
"To allow cameras to document the incredibly difficult struggles he has, and continues to face, battling against Alzheimer's, is just indicative of his bravery and courage.
"I hope that as many people as possible will see the programme, and as a result will recognise and understand the challenges faced by those who suffer from Alzheimer's, and together will push for more action to tackle this terrible condition."

Terry Pratchett: Living with Alzheimer's
That This House
Commends the bravery and courage of author Sir Terry Pratchett for being prepared to share his ongoing battle with Alzheimer's Disease, and in allowing cameras to capture this battle in such an open and powerful way; hopes that this provides an opportunity for as wider audience as possible to recognize and understand the terrible toll that attempting to cope with Alzheimer's has on those who suffer from it, and their families; notes that for every person with Alzheimer's £11 is spent each year on UK research compared with £289 for each cancer patient; hopes that there will now be a further commitment to tackle Alzheimer's, and in particular to commit more resource to research and understanding this terrible condition.
