Greg Mulholland MP has urged the Home Secretary Jacqui Smith MP to personally examine the case of Enid Ruhango, who was interned in the Yarl's Wood Detention centre - an institution criticised for a series of failures relating to Enid, and her roommate Sophie Odogo, by the Chief Inspector Anne Owers - in Home Office questions on the floor of the House of Commons today.
Greg has been campaigning on Enid's behalf following her arrival into this country - and subsequent internship in Yarl's Wood - after she suffered horrendous treatment at the hands of Government forces in Uganda, which left her with a number of physical and mental health problems which were then arguably compounded by the treatment she received at Yarl's Wood.
Commenting Greg said:
"The treatment that Enid has received since she came to this country has been nothing short of appalling.
"She fled the worst kind of torture and abuse, and yet she has been failed at every stage of the immigration process.
"She must be allowed to stay, anything else would be criminal."
