Greg Mulholland, MP for Leeds North West today welcomed the news that many community leaders in Sheffield are backing his call for a new High Speed link through West Yorkshire;
"It is very encouraging that MP's and councillors are coming together across West Yorkshire to make the case to be connected to the rail network. We urgently need a campaign across the whole of Yorkshire to ensure that our region is not sidelined by the Governments plans."
"The link would give a huge boost to the region in terms of creating jobs and making it even more attractive to businesses looking to invest. Commuters in Yorkshire would enjoy faster and smoother journeys. West Yorkshire needs a 21st century transport system and this would be one step towards this goal.
Representatives from Sheffield Council; the Chamber of Commerce; Creative Sheffield; Yorkshire Forward; SYPTE and a couple of Sheffield's MP's, met last Friday at the Town Hall.
The meeting agreed to seek to work with Councils and MPs in other cities such as Leeds, Nottingham, and Derby to ensure that a branch of the new High Speed Line, proposed from London to Birmingham, travels on to the East Midlands, South and West Yorkshire.
