Greg Mulholland, MP for Leeds North West, and Ryk Downes, Councillor for Otley & Yeadon along with Martin Rivett of Leeds Metropolitan University have qualified for the 'Wessex 100' as part of the 126 Mile Challenge. They successfully completed 'The Woldsman' 50 mile walk on the Yorkshire Wolds on Saturday 18th April.
Greg, Ryk and Martin completed the event, organised by the East Yorkshire LDWA, in a time of 16 hours 41 minutes and crossed the finishing line together. Entrants for the 'Wessex 100' have to complete a 50 mile challenge in the 12 months prior to the 23rd May start date so this success means that the team has qualified.
Greg commented; "We are delighted that we all completed this excellent event. We really enjoyed crossing the finish line together and are now looking forward to the hundred"
Ryk Downes said; "We are now totally focused on the upcoming Belfast Marathon and Hundred. Both will be big challenges but completing events like 'The Woldsman', which is a fabulous event, put us through our paces and are a essential part of our preparations."
Martin, who clocked-up his longest ever walk, added; "We want to thank East Yorkshire LDWA and all the volunteers for organising a great event and for looking after us so well at every checkpoint, this made it so much easier to complete it."
