Greg Mulholland, Liberal Democrat MP for Leeds North West today questioned the Economic Secretary to the Treasury Ian Pearson MP over Government legislation governing Credit Unions.
Having been approached by concerned constituent Tony Massarella, Greg asked the Minister what assurances he could give to ensure that the Government's legislation would not favour larger Unions and would not ignore smaller Credit Unions which are closer to the communities they are supposed to serve.
Commenting, Greg said;
"I was very pleased to have the opportunity to put Tony's point of view across, this is yet again another excellent example of how people can raise issues on a Parliamentary level simply by visiting their MP.
It is an important issue and we have to ensure that the legislation being brought in by the Government does not discriminate against Credit Unions on the basis of size. I look forward to discussing the Minister's response with Tony directly.
I hope this instance encourages more people to visit me and discuss their concerns therefore giving me the opportunity to continue to represent them at the highest level."
