Greg Mulholland MP for Leeds North West and leading campaigner on MPs' expenses signed a Parliamentary Motion of No Confidence in the Speaker of the House of Commons.
Commenting, Greg said;
"The Speaker's position has become untenable and he must now stand down in order that work can begin to restore public confidence in Parliament.
The Speaker is too closely associated with the appalling decision to block the Freedom of Information request into members' expenses, which in itself has done so much damage, to be able to lead on much needed reform.
It will also be impossible for him to reform the situation when he was found to be claiming second home allowances on his constituency home in Glasgow whilst living at the taxpayers' expense in the Speakers Apartment in London. It is time for a new Speaker who can have the authority to lead the House of Commons out of this mess."
