Greg Mulholland, MP for Leeds North West, spoke in a House of Commons debate today, probing the Government on their Stroke Strategy and the provision of stroke services in the UK.
Commenting on the issue, Greg said;
"The National Stroke Strategy is a step in the right direction and it has achieved some good things in its first two years, but we still have a long way to go before our stroke care is up to scratch.
Stroke is the third biggest killer after heart disease and cancer and the leading cause of adult disability. If we want to improve the nation's health, it is essential for the Government to focus on stroke prevention and treatment.
Due to our ageing population and rising levels of obesity and diabetes, incidences of stroke are set to rise considerably in the future. We therefore need to get our stroke care provision sorted out now, before it is too late."
