Greg Mulholland MP has today signed a parliamentary motion celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Morris Ring of England.
The Morris Ring plays a major role in promoting Morris Dancing around the country and Otley and Wharfedale are home to a number of Morris sides.
Greg has also written to each of the Morris Dancing organisations in his constituency voicing his support for the tradition both locally and nationally.
Commenting, Greg said;
"Morris dancing is an important part of English history and heritage and I am delighted that Otley & Wharfedale have such a thriving Morris Dancing scene.
I have signed this motion to not only celebrate the Morris Dancing scene both locally and nationally nut also to draw attention to the fact that the Arts Council England considers it more important to support contemporary Latin American art than England's traditional folk song and dance culture.
I look forward to seeing some fine examples of the tradition of Morris Dancing at the Otley Folk festival in September."
