Greg Mulholland MP for Leeds North West today spoke in a debate on the need for a more public inquiry into Britain's involvement in the Iraq war. Mr Mulholland has always been an opponent of the war and has consistently called for a full and transparent inquiry into the war to be held.
Commenting, Greg said;
"The Government once again has made a complete mess of an important issue by proposing a half baked, tightly controlled inquiry into Iraq. We must have a fully independent public inquiry into the illegal invasion.
We must find out how and why this disastrous decision was taken and if, as seems clear, Tony Blair misled the House of Commons and the country, then he and others must face the consequences.
If MPs who have made false expense claims could face jail, and they should, what punishment would be appropriate for a Prime Minister who deceives a nation when putting British troops at risk?"
