Greg Mulholland MP for Leeds North West today signed an Early Day Motion calling for satellite navigation devices (sat navs) to be made safer when fitted in large vehicles.
There have been a number of incidents involving large vehicles going down unsuitable and narrow roads in the Otley and Pool. This motion calls on the government to regulate sat navs so that they take into account the height, width and length of a vehicle before calculating the route it should take.
Commenting, Greg said;
"The government have failed to sufficiently regulate the booming sat nav industry in the past.
Large vehicles can cause chaos when they are sent down narrow unsuitable roads the situation at Old Pool Bank, for example, highlights this.
The government must regulate the sat nav industry so sat navs are forced to take into account the height, width and length of a vehicle."
