Greg Mulholland, MP for Leeds North West yesterday demanded the Leader of the House of Commons Harriet Harman allow a parliamentary debate on the issue of independent sector treatment centres.
Mr Mulholland reminded the house of the case of Dr John Hubley who died as a result of complications which arose during surgery at the Eccleshill treatment centre in Bradford.
Commenting, Greg said;
"The Secretary of State for Health has so far ignored calls for an inquiry into the NHS using independent sector treatment centres, including calls from the family of Dr John Hubley, who tragically and unnecessarily died at Eccleshill Treatment Centre.
The coroner recorded a verdict of death by misadventure aggravated by neglect in the case of Dr Hubley yet even to this day his family have received inadequate information as to whether the problems surrounding his death have been properly addressed.
I hope Leader of the House will take this opportunity to call a proper debate on the practices of independent sector treatment centres which have not been subject to an appropriate level of scrutiny thus far."
